Help out a tullebok utlending - Winter Detailing

Halla guys,

Having lived in Norway for 5 years now I know how hard the winters are on your car. And I have a new car coming soon. So it will kill me But when it comes to detailing I like to do it all myself. So what are my options in winter?

 

- Is there a vaskehall I can use where I stay there for 8 hours and detail my car?

- Or do I wash my car in -5 degrees weather outside my house?

 

I prefer to do the detailing all myself if possible.

Depends where you live and what kind of detailing you would like to do. Since you mention eight hours, it probably involves a polish?

A friend with a garage would be nice. Maybe a friend with a big garage at his work place

Oslo / Akershus area. Maybe its best I use my company underground garage at the weekend and try to wash with buckets only, after doing a pre-wash at a Selvvask gas station.

 

Yeah I would like to do the works. Pre-wash/avfetting, wash, clay, polish, alcohol clean, ceramic coat..... bla bla.

Jeg ville ha vasket bilen i vaskehall med full avfetting, berøringsvask, clay osv. Dette ville jeg gjort på en tid på døgnet jeg vet det ikke vil være pågang på vaskeanlegget. Etterpå ville jeg ha kjørt rett til garagen som du har tilgang til, og enten gjort en vannløs vask eller bøttevask uten skylling med produkter som for eksempel CG EcoSmart, CG No Rinse, osv. 

 

Etter dette burde bilen være ren nok til å gå igang. Sørg for å ha godt med ekstra lys. Det er ofte mørkt i garageanlegg!

If there is access to power to run lights and machines that would work. Needs some planning but, it works. And take into account the tips from KennethR

Thanks for the input guys I used to do a lot of detailing in the UK, but now the long winters in Norway make it quite frustrating, especially when I see how messed up the car gets with the salt and shit on the E6. 

 

So hopefully I can do a full clean a few times this winter. We have electric sockets at work, so I can power lights, vacuums etc. Not sure if my company will let me, but I will ask. The underground parking is deserted on the weekend but warm enough to work there. 

 

The next question is how do I do a wash without rinsing with a hose/pressure washer? I would try to get most of the bad dirt/salt off the car at the gas station, so the wash at work shouldnt be too bad I think? But how do I do it without rinsing and potentially messing up the paint even more?
